I thought it could have been is binki, but he got rid of that almost a yr ago and he still gets it. Can it be the heat, he doesnt complain of it being itchy.

Might be chap lips or wind burn. I know my brother in law licks his lips alot and they get all red and dryed out. try putting some vasoline or chapstick on him.
my brother go that does it kida look like a kool aid stain?
my brothers did and when he would go to day care they didnt rinse of the chemicals after cleaning the toys so it was a chemical rash his didnt itch eaither.
a number of things could give the rash. Licking around his lips alot. May have an alergic reaction to ketsup. But for the best answer get a doctor appointment.
infents get this thing called hand mouth foot desiese it sort of sounds like it.. but only if you see red bumps smaller then chicken pox!
my friend’s baby just had it not long ago and he got it too! worse for adults! normal for babies but like chicken pox you won’t get it if you had it in the past!

Our son (also 3) kind of sucks on his bottom lip at times and it creates a red mark under his lip. Putting Aquafor on it before bed seems to make it go away. Haven’t figured out how to get him to stop doing it.
He is eating something that is causing it. Just put, and this may sound weird, a dab of vaseline around his mouth. Any type of skin protecterant would suffice.

Does he lick his lips a lot? Have you had his blood tested? He might be diabetic. It is also possible he is drinking high acid drinks. These include Kool Aide, soft drinks, almost any fruit drink, many sweet drinks. He may also have an allergic reaction to something he eats or drinks.
Fruit will do that, especially oranges. Put some lip ice on his face, mouth cheeks all over. Very good
If it is bluish/purplish, does it happen when he has been running around and it out of breath???
not to alarm you but it could be a heart murmur/lack of oxygen. although it may not be life-threatnening, something to look into. many toddlers outgrow heart irregularities

Our two yr old boy used to get that too – and we thought (on two seperate occasions) that it was all the berries he was eating – loves rasberries etc… then on the other occasion, I was feeding him Peanuts, a mixed fancy nuts bag, and I noticed it happened as well.
Your best bet, if you can do it is to get him tested for allergic reaction. More and more today, our kids are having allergies, whereas, when we were kids, it just didn’t happen that often… could be the world we live in today…

You might just need to do the old trick of elimination of one thing at a time, till you get to the crux of the matter… IE: Pay special attn to what you’re feeding him and see his reactions to each item.
When my cousin was younger she used lick her lips and she used to get what looks like a rash. She didn’t complain either about it being itchy.
My little Brother gets that when he eats cantaloupe or honeydew on the rinds. is he allergic to something?

You should have a doctor check, but it could be allergies. I had it to citrus fruit, but grew out of it. To check, keep a list of all the foods you give him. Then, one at a time, eliminate one food for a week, and see if anything changes. Then, when you’ve figured it out. eliminate that food.
Might be allergic to some food that you are giving him.My children used to get like that when they ate pizza or any kind of sauce that contained the same ingredients as the pizza.
Some acidic foods like ketchup and orange juice etc. can make toddlers and infants get a rash around their mouth.
runny nose, licking his lips, all contribute to red rash
It could also be a reaction to something you give him to drink, some babies/toddlers will develope a reaction to certain juices or foods even tho in the past they didn’t have that, as they get older the more their bodies develope, could try having him checked out by his doctor just to make sure.

My son got that all the time..he was licking his lips alot and playing with his mouth with his hands and so on..and alos kids skin at that age is more sensitive…maybe some things to do:
Be very careful of the sun..it can make that worse!
Be sure he is hydrated enough
use some of the chapstick that doesn’t have a flavor during the day(if u use the flavor kind he will just eat it..lol)
at night put a dab or 2 of vitamin E oil..not much a very thin coat
the next time you visit his Pediatrician, mention it and have him check his breathing through his nose..because if his nasal passage is stuffy or swolen from alergies he would breath with an open mouth more and cause this from the saliva not being swallowed as much. Kinda like when kids get a cold and drool on everything because their nose is stuffy.

sounds like an allergic reaction to something. my son would only get it if he ate any kind of sauce…ranch, cheese, or anything of the like.. it was really weird. he is 5 now and it hasnt happened since he was about 3…good luck!

When I was young that would happen to me. It was becuase I would suck on my lips and it would first turn red, then I would keep doing it and a few days later it woud be purple and black like a bruise around my lips.
If this is something you are truly concerned about then you should consult a Doctor and not a bunch of people in cyber space. This is your child after all, not a car or computer. Although there were some good thoughts given only having a professional examine it will give you the results you should trust. and to the person that says you can only get Chicken Pox once, research that, as an adult you can get Shingles which is the same virus as the chicken pox.
My son, who’s 5, used to get a rash from certain toothpastes. Some of the character toothpastes from Crest Kids and Colgate kids with certain dyes in them caused problems. He’s been using Aquafresh Kids for over a year and hasn’t had a rash since we switched.
I think you should take your child to the Dr. and let them decide what it is . It could be a reaction to food or detergent in the laundry, fabric softener, It could be a reaction to anything. I wonder why you let it go on so long? A rash means something is not right. It could be a virus or something from one of his toys or his drinking cup. It could be from a cleaning product you use. What ever it is it should be removed. Some children are allergic to certain foods.

Children are sometimes allergic to fur or furry toys. If you have plants you have to watch to make sure the child doesn’t eat the leaves or rub his face on them too. especially Christmas plants those red ones. What about lead paint is your home lead paint free? Just a few things to think about.

maybe its an allergic reaction to something he ate… seafood or something. or his skin is irritated from something acidic like tomatoes or pineapple… wash his mouth right away.
