My daughter has been on an antibiotic for about 4 days for an ear infection. since then, i’ve noticed small red bumps (like pimples) on her rear, then it started spreading down the back of her legs. her BM’s have been smelling quite foul (sorry), and think that may be from the antibiotic. i thought at first that the rash was from the BM and the antibiotic, but now it’s creeping down the back of her leg. i haven’t changed her detergent or bath soap, and i haven’t fed her anything new or unusual. i’m going to check her tomorrow morning when she wakes up and if it’s still there or worse, i’ll call her doctor, but i was hoping to get some input from anyone who might have an idea of what this could be from. thanks!

probably yeast.
poor thing.
if her poo smells pretty bad then she probably needs a presecription for nystatin swish and swallow (i used to dunk a little on the pacifier and pop it in my kids’ mouth).
but the rash–nystatin swish won’t get that.
you might try some lotramin. get it at walgreens or krogers in the foot care aisle.

good luck.
and as always, if your lil one’s butt and legs look no better after a few days, see the doctor.
Sounds definitely like a fungus (yeast) infection which is a side effect of the antibiotic. If the over the counter lotrimin doesn’t work, your doctor can give you a prescription cream. Keep the area very clean and DRY until it heals. Frequent cool baths followed by open air until completely dry may help, and change the diaper as often as possible. This will not heal with regular diaper creams and it really burns so be sure to get the cream as soon as possible. PS, don’t stop the antibiotic because of this, call your doctor.
Can it be diaper rash? It is also possible that she is having lowered immunity, making her susceptible to a spread in infection.
