you don’t know what your baby is sensitive to until you try it. but petroleum jelly is the universal diaper cream. i prefer desatin, or the store brand equal.

desitin is the best. if you tried that try bottom butter, also i use a product called butt paste.

Vaseline is what I normally put on my son’s butt to prevent diaper rash. But, cornstarch baby powder and any diaper rash creams work really good. My doctor also told me to feed my baby yogurt to help his diaper rash. Good luck

Irritation: sudocream or any zinc based cream that isn’t to thick.

Yeast (the rash will start as small dots and there will be small dots around the outside of the rash) antifungal cream, the stuff for vaginal yeast infections, jock itch or athelete’s foot. It’s all the same stuff.

Petroleum jelly is better for preventing rash than treating it.

Cornstarch or baby powder with cornstarch.
    Desitin Ointment.
    Cool water bath.
If you don’t mind clean up,you can leave the diaper off for a little while to allow air to get to the skin.

I agree on the Boudreaux’s Buttpaste. My son has only had a little irritation there a couple of times but the Buttpaste got rid of the redness from one diaper to the next each time.

Also, you might try using cloth diapers rather than disposables. Each time my son has gotten diaper rash, it’s been because we were using disposables for a couple of days instead of his cloth.

plain A&D ointment its mild and it works.
and its not a cream that you will end up having to scrub off sensitve areas later.

Use Balmex. Clean the area very carefully before applying anything when changing diapers. Also, be sure to change your baby often so the baby doesn’t have a wet diaper rubbing up against the rash.
Most doctors will tell you that powder is not to be used as it causes allergies and can be an irritant.
*Always wash your hands after diapering*

Petroleum jelly works to lubricate and seal in moisture. I found that works better to PREVENT diaper rash rather than treat it, provided the diaper rash is moderate. The stuff I like the best is Butt Paste. It goes on pretty pasty, but unlike others, it will soak into the skin and heal it in just a day (if it’s severe), or less! I like that it actually works great and it doesn’t leave a film that you can’t wash off. I used Desitin Creamy and I didn’t like it for that reason…I never used to on diaper rash, I just used it to prevent it. After a few times, I gave up b/c I could barely wash it off.

Another thing that works well to PREVENT diaper rash is Balmex…but it’s the stuff in the tube that is clear…not the white cream. It rubs on clear, but it’s like petroleum jelly. I think that petroleum jelly would be the best prevention b/c it’s cheap and Butt Paste would be the best to clear it up!

Sunlight is also great for diaper rash. For some reason, sunlight helps to clear it up. Some doctors recommend a few minutes in the sun on their bare bottoms and it should clear it up without medication. Although, be careful not to let them stay more than a few minutes…you don’t want to cause damage.

    Good luck!

Vasoline is a good preventative, but my child would get really bad rashed due to allergies and “Triple Paste” was the only cream to calm and cure it, it works like magic! It’s over the counter, but you probably will have to ask the pharmacist to order it for you.

My daughter had really bad to reaction to juice and she got severe diaper rashes and I used A & D ointment or even cornstarch worked good. A & D seemed to do the best and it’s a mild ointment.

Best stuff is Triple paste; it is usually behind counter at Walmart pharmacy; it is expensive but well worth it when they have bad diaper rash.

Bag Balm – it’s wonderful stuff. Ask your pharmasist if you can’t find it on the shelf. I never know where to look for it. It’s in a green can.
Oh, the name comes from the fact it was used on cows udders to keep them from getting chapped.

I’ve tried it all, and A&D works the best.

Vaseline will prevent the rash, but it won’t heal it. A&D does and it sooths the pain.

Anytime my baby has a little rash, she always asks me for the “andy”…..

ok, I know this is a good one, becuase my sons Childrens Hospital recommends this one, & my son has EXTREMELY sensitive skinn, its called Balmex its diaper rash ointment, but works really good, & its somethign you can buy over the counter.

Another one that REALLY works & its comes from the old school too. Something that its more like a tinkture remedey is fry alittle flour, just enought to turn it a VERY light tint of tan thats it.

Let it cool very good. Then sprinkle it on there bottoms, THIS DOES WORK!!! I SWEAR! When I ran out of Balmex I was told this that my grandma did this, & it worked really good.

Vasoline can help to protect it from further irritation however desitin, vasaline, a & d and those sort of thiings are a bit harder to just wipe off on the next changing. I use corn starch and it works wonders. every few changed they take a dip in luke warm water just because it also helps to sooth the behind. You can also choose to put corn starch in a little tub of water every 4 hours as this was recomeded for me to do from my pediatrician. Leaving the behind for the air is much better then a diaper. I put little rags over my infant when he had a bad one that way I could change it immediatly and it would soak the urine up a little better. However after a day he was clean and I was busy with laundry during that time :)

BALMEX is the best; however, my son would get a rash so bad that it had open sores, and Balmex wasn’t doing it, so my pediatrician recommended NEOSPORIN. It healed up within a day.

You know, the only thing that worked for all of my kids was a product called Bag Balm. It comes in a squaw green canister. It stinks slightly, although you can’t smell it when a diaper is on, and is a disgusting color of amber/brownish, but it works so dang well the rest doesn’t matter!

    a & d ointment:)

Whatever you decide to use make sure you only put it on a small area at first to make sure it doesn’t burn. I tried balmex with my son and he screamed because it burnt his irritated skin. Then tried the butt paste and that didn’t bother him at all.All children are different so whatever you decide to use be careful. Also petroleum jelly is a good barrier to prevent rash or to keep from getting worse but not to heal one they already have.
